About Our Library The original English library opened on June 10th, 2003 and was created to provide access to a wide variety of English language books for the students.
Thanks to the generosity of the South Korean government and a corporate partner, POSCO, we were able to move into a beautiful new library space, planned and designed by Michael A Kelly and James Stacey. Both of whom have spent many years developing the library program at TKS. Our new library is a colorful and dynamic space, shared with the Korean library and enjoyed by students, teachers and parents alike. We have a growing collection of books and materials for students and teachers. There is an iMac media lab where students can engage in online learning, do research, create their own content, read books or simply play educational games. We even have a relaxing patio with covered picnic tables and a fish pond. The English library is an important part of daily life at Tokyo Korean School, thanks to all the teachers in the English Immersion Program who often give their time and energy to help the library work for their students and even volunteer to be guest story tellers at our Wednesday story-time. Our library is staffed by a hardworking group of parent volunteers who are always ready to greet the students with a smile. Also a team of dedicated English teachers regularly volunteer their time to plan and implement story-times, special book displays and reading incentive programs for the benefit of the students. Without all of these teachers and parents working together our library would just be a room full of a books. But thanks to their hard work and determination it is so much more than that. |
