Sakura Medal 2014
Sakura Medal Letter to Parents (Korean)
Dear Parents,
We are very pleased to announce, for the 3rd year, that our school will be participating in the Sakura Medal Program.
The Sakura Medal started in 2006. The 2014 Sakura Medal program is a chance for your child and other international school students from international schools across Japan to read great books and vote for their favorites.
As this is our second year, and we wish for all students to participate, your child will be voting on Picture Books (Gr 1-6) and chapter books (Gr 4-6) . There are 20 picture books. These books are written in English by authors from around the world.
Students who read five books can vote for their favourite Sakura Medal book. Votes will then be tallied across all participating international schools and the winning author in each category will receive a Sakura Medal.
Parents are encouraged to help children read the books and assist in comprehension. Completing review sheets, leaving comments on the Sakura Medal website and voting are only to be done by students.
Students are encouraged to read and complete the reviews in their own time and to their best ability. Your child’s English teacher will assist your child in producing their best effort work. Some English teachers may also choose to teach some lessons using Sakura Medal materials to aid your child.
You will find a list of the schools participating this year and also a list of the Sakura Medal books you should encourage your child to read at the Sakura Medal website. Two copies of each picture book are available in the English Elementary Library (one copy of each is a no loan book). 1 copy of each chapter book is available for a 1 week per child loan.
Kind Regards,
Mr. James Stacey
